Frequently Asked Questions Regarding ABPANC Online Remote Exams

For specific policies and procedures related to online remote exams, you must review the Certification Candidate Handbook prior to registering for a CAPA or CPAN exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the online remote-proctored exam option for me?

A: This option does place more responsibility on candidates to ensure your equipment and location meet the technical requirements, including stable Internet and access to a webcam. It is recommended that you use your personal computer instead of a company-issued computer due to security settings that may block necessary functions. To learn about system requirements, please visit this link.

Q: Should I test my computer before my exam to make sure I have the correct system requirements?

A: Yes, we encourage you to perform a compatibility check at least once before your exam.

Q; What happens if my computer does not pass the compatibility test?

A:  If you are using your work computer, please notify your IT department to review any security and privacy settings/restrictions in place. You may need to seek permission to lift or relax these settings in order to take the CPAN or CAPA exam online.

You may contact PSI Technical Support if you or your IT department have any questions about your compatibility test results.

Note that exam purchases are nonrefundable. If your computer is unable to support taking the exam online, you will need to take the exam at a physical PSI Test Center location.

Q: How do I schedule my exam online?

A: If you have not already done so, you must first create an account on ABPANC’s content management system called Learning Builder. After you create and account and log in, it will guide you through the process to register for an exam. Once you have completed your registration and payment, you will be able to access ABPANC’s scheduling portal on PSI’s site where you can choose to schedule an online remote exam or an exam at a PSI Test Center.

Q:  What happens on the day of the exam?

A: Watch this brief video to learn about the online exam process.

Prepare your workspace. We recommend setting up in the room where you will take the exam and logging into your PSI account at least 30 minutes prior to your online exam start time. However, your exam cannot be launched until 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.

Your remote proctor will only appear at the time of your scheduled exam. Please wait up to 15 minutes for the remote proctor to appear for your scheduled exam before reaching out to PSI for assistance.

You will need a valid photo ID. Acceptable forms of ID can be found here. Your photo on the ID should be made clearly visible to the camera when prompted by the proctor. The name on the ID must be the same as the name used to register for the exam.

Ensure your computer has sufficient battery life and/or is plugged into a power source for the duration of the exam.

Ensure you have stable and continuous Internet connectivity for the duration of your exam. If you lose Internet connectivity during the exam, your session will end automatically, and results will be voided.

Q: How long do I have to complete the exam?

A: Candidates have three hours to complete the exam. This time starts after the remote proctor has completed all necessary check-in information and releases the exam to the candidate. Please allow up to 45 minutes for the initial check-in process.

Q: I already scheduled an in-person exam. Can I switch to take my exam online?

A:  Yes. Simply log into your Learning Builder account, select “Exam Appointments” and you will be able to change your in-person exam to an online proctored exam.

Q: Can I reschedule my online exam?

A:  Yes. Candidates can reschedule their exam online as many times as you would like at no charge up to 48 hours before your scheduled exam time. You can reschedule your exam online by logging into your Learning Builder account and selecting the “Exam Appointments” button.

Q: Can I use materials or scrap paper while taking my exam online?

A:  No. Please refer to the Candidate Handbook to review exam policies and procedures, and specific rules regarding the online exam.

Q: After the examination starts, can I take a break?

A:  Taking a break during the online exam is considered an accommodation and must be requested and approved in advance. Please fill out this form to request an accommodation here. After filling out the form, you can email or call the PSI Accommodations Team at 800-367-1565, ext 6750; eaalerts@psionline.com.

Q: Will someone be monitoring me while I take my exam?

A:  Yes. An examination proctor will conduct the check-in process and will monitor your activity through the entire duration of the exam.

Q: What if I start to experience technical issues during the exam?

A:  If you start to experience technical issues while you are taking the exam, you should first attempt to chat with the proctor.  If you are unable to chat with the proctor due to the technical issue you are experiencing, you will need to contact PSI AND email ABPANC. Please be aware that doing so may result in the termination of your examination. If this occurs, you will need to reschedule your exam.
