ABPANC Advocacy Award Winners and Stories
The recipient of ABPANC’s 11th Advocacy Award presented at the 2011 CPAN/CAPA Celebration Luncheon, held at the ASPAN National Conference in Seattle, WA, is Kundry Grove, RN, BSN, CAPA, a staff nurse who works in the Outpatient Surgery Dept. of Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. While the story submitted about Kundry identified several extraordinary examples of her ability to advocate on behalf of perianesthesia patients, one far exceeded anyone’s expectations!
After a blizzard made travel extremely tenuous and brought vehicle traffic to a virtual standstill, Kundry packed supplies on a sled and headed out for the hospital on foot — several miles away — hopping on the sled whenever she came to a downhill! This epitomizes Kundry — always finding a way to somehow do the impossible, and always reaching a little higher. She was honored that evening on a local TV news broadcast as a “Hometown Hero.” And she is a hero in every sense of the word — especially in the eyes of her patients.
Kundry was presented with the beautiful Lladro statue of the Nurse, a framed certificate and a scholarship for her next recertification fee.
Kundry was nominated by her colleague — Molly Morgan who is also a CAPA. Because she took the time and wrote a wonderful story about Kundry, Molly was given a $100 cash award to use in any way she wishes!. The unit in which Kundry works also was given a check for $350 to be used for such things as certification fees, continuing education fees, books, etc.
