ABPANC Scholarship Program

A limited number of scholarships are available each year for perianesthesia nurses to obtain:

  • Certification Fees ($314)
  • Recertification Fees ($194)

Scholarship Application

Scholarships for Initial Certification

Policies:

  1. The annual window for applying for a scholarship opens May 1 and ends June 30 at 11:59 pm eastern time.
  2. The scholarship application is available on ABPANC’s website at www.cpancapa.org and must be submitted electronically by the deadline to abpanc@proexam.org; applications postmarked after the deadline will not be considered;
  3. All eligibility requirements to sit for initial certification must be met at the time the scholarship recipient completes the online examination application;
  4. To be eligible for an ABPANC scholarship, no monetary support for certification is available from the applicant’s employer;
  5. Along with the application, an essay (no longer than 300 words) must be submitted describing what becoming CPAN or CAPA certified would mean to him/her and what he/she see as the benefits of being certified;
  6. An ABPANC check will be issued to scholarship recipients for $314;
  7. The scholarship recipient must register for an examination being given in the following Fall or Spring registration windows or the scholarship becomes null and void and it is expected the monies will be returned to ABPANC;
  8. If an examination applicant receives a scholarship and subsequently fails the examination, they are not eligible to receive another scholarship. They are eligible, however, to receive $50 off the next examination fee;
  9. The ABPANC Awards Workteam is responsible for reviewing all applications;
  10. The number of ABPANC scholarships may vary from year to year and will be based on the amount of money budgeted each year;
  11. Applicants will be notified by August 1 regarding whether or not they will receive a scholarship;
  12. Scholarship recipients will receive an ABPANC check for fees; the recipient must register for the examination using a credit card.

Procedures:

  1. Applicants must submit a completed electronic ABPANC Scholarship Application form no later than 11:59 pm eastern time on June 30 to abpanc@proexam.org that includes:
    1. Complete contact information for scholarship applicant;
    2. Verification from the nurse manager that the eligibility requirements (as described in the Certification Candidate Handbook) to sit for the CPAN or CAPA examination have been met as follows:
      (1) current, unrestricted RN Licensure in the US or any of its territories which use the NCSBN NCLEX exam as the basis for determining RN licensure;
      (2) direct perianesthesia nursing experience as a RN for a minimum of 1800 hours within the two years prior to application for the examination;
    3. Verification from the nurse manager or HR Department staff that no monetary support is available from employer for seeking initial certification;
    4. An essay (no more than 300 words) that describes what becoming CPAN or CAPA certified would mean to them and what they see as the benefits of being certified.

Scholarships for Recertification through the Continual Learning Program

Policies:

  1. Current members of the ABPANC Board of Directors are not eligible for a recertification scholarship.
  2. The Recertification Scholarship may only be used to recertify through ABPANC’s continual learning program.
  3. The annual window for applying for a scholarship opens May 1 and ends June 30 at 11:59 pm eastern time.
  4. The scholarship application is available on ABPANC’s website at www.cpancapa.org and must be submitted electronically to abpanc@proexam.org by the deadline; applications postmarked after the deadline will not be considered;
  5. All eligibility requirements for recertification must be met at the time the scholarship recipient completes the online examination application;
  6. To be eligible for an ABPANC scholarship, no monetary support for certification is available from the applicant’s employer;
  7. Along with the application, an essay (no longer than 300 words) must be submitted describing how he/she have promoted CPAN or CAPA certification during his/her three year period of certification. Such activities may include those described in the Recertification Handbook under the heading, How to Earn Contact Hours, i.e., CPANs and CAPAs as Teachers, Authors, Facilitators of Quality Care, and Resource Leaders. Activities related to CPANs and CAPAs as Continuing Education and Academic Students do not apply. Other activities may include such things as serving as an ABPANC Coach or ALRT member, conveying certification information at component meetings, serving as a study buddy, posting certification related materials on the unit, participation on a Role Delineation Study Task Force or Passing Point Study, etc.
  8. An ABPANC check will be issued to scholarship recipients for $194;
  9. The scholarship recipient must use the scholarship to recertify through the continual learning program within the upcoming Fall or Spring recertification cycle in which they are due or the scholarship becomes null and void. It is expected the monies will be returned to ABPANC;
  10. The ABPANC Awards Workteam is responsible for reviewing all applications;
