On behalf of everyone at the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, we would like to thank you for your dedication and service to your patients and your community as a perianesthesia nurse and first responder. We are aware that these are trying times for everyone, and you are among our country’s unsung heroes working every day to care for and protect our most vulnerable citizens in this unprecedented health care crisis that has been presented by the COVID-19 virus.

As you are aware, your CPAN or CAPA certification is set to expire on April 30, 2020. However, we understand that there are many more pressing issues you are attending to – some of them life or death. To that end, ABPANC is extending the deadline for you to renew your credential until May 31, 2020. We hope that this will alleviate some stress for you and allow you to schedule more time to renew your current certification through your Learning Builder account.

If you need assistance in how to enter CEs or upload documents, please refer to our video tutorials. We know that many training lectures and conferences are being cancelled. However, we encourage you to find some online CE modules here if you still need additional CEs to complete the requirements for your recertification. Please refer to the Recertification Handbook for any additional questions you may have.

Please note that if you do choose to renew your certification by the extended deadline of May 31, 2020, your credential will still expire in three years at the original “next recertification” date of April 30, 2023.

Thank you again for the continued care and dedication that you display as a nurse every day. We are all proud to be perianesthesia nurses and to be an important part in the health care of our communities. Above all: remember to practice good “self-care.”  Your health, safety and well-being – and those of your loved ones – are of utmost importance.
